“Snow is falling all around me, children playing having fun, tis the season love and understanding, Merry Christmas everyone.” Well not quite we’re more of the 12 days of Christmas type, but you’ll struggle to avoid letting the Christmas spirit in after you spend a night having Christmas fun in Glasgow.

Things to do in Glasgow at Christmas…

1. itison Christmas Drive In


Itison once again presents their Christmas Drive In Movies, £26 per car from the 18th to the 24th of December, catch the greatest Christmas classics from the comfort of your own car, with appearances from Santa, street food markets, and a winter wonderland, you’d be crazy to miss the magic of Christmas surrounded by the mystique of Loch Lomond.

2. George Square On Ice

Whether you’re a retired pro ice skater or simply somebody who’s managed to stumble onto the ice with a pair of ice skates on, you’ll be sure to have a jovial time, attempting to avoid falling on your bum and suffering the shame of enduring a wet bum for the rest of the night. Book early, George Square on Ice is always busy.

3. Christmas Markets

With plenty of markets in and around Glasgow at Christmas time, you’ll be sure to pick up some wonderful festive treats (eggnog, mulled wine etc), whether it be St Enoch Centre (until 20 Dec), Silverburn (until 31st Dec) or Candleriggs (24th Dec), you’ll be guaranteed to find plenty of Christmas joy.

4. Santa in Hamleys

Where would we be without a visit to see Santa in his temporary residence at Hamley’s (he travels back to the North Pole on Christmas Eve.), Hamleys toy store, can set up a pre arranged meeting with “Big Red” before the big day (he always seems to escape just before the kids get up.) Getting to spend nearly an hour with Santa will guarantee no misbehaviour before Christmas Day.

5. Pantomime


A true British tradition, the Pantomime at Christmas Time, whether your catching the Krankies in Peter Pan, Gregor Fisher in Snow White or any one of the hundreds of other Pantomime shows in Glasgow or further afield, always remember to check the path you’ve just walked because “he’s behind youuuuuu”.

6. Santa Dash

Whether you’re participating or supporting the 2015 5k Santa Dash, make sure you’re taking part. Sunday 6th of December will see more than 5000 people dressed as Santa take to the streets of Glasgow, starting at George Square. No magical sleighs or flying reindeer permitted.

7. Lego Advent Calendar

You read that correctly, the worlds largest Lego Advent Calendar, constructed with 600,000 lego bricks, Buchanan Galleries, also offers the chance to win Lego sets, £250 pounds Buchanan Galleries vouchers, candy canes for everybody, and a whole host of fabulous fun right up until Christmas Eve.

9. Santa Experience @ Snow Factor

How about meeting Santa, on Scotland’s only indoor slope that uses real snow. With the option of eating dinner with Santa, getting a present and also half an hour of sledging, you cant go far wrong with the Santa Experience at Snow Factor in Braehead.

10. Irn Bru Carnival

No need for an introduction, but we’ll give it one anyway. The Irn Bru Carnival is Europe’s largest indoor funfare, from the 23rd of December to 17th January, expect to be twirled, shot in the air, spun on the waltzers and generally thrown from side to side until you can’t take anymore. We can’t wait.

12. Catch a Christmas Movie @ GFT

With classics such as Gremlins, Elf, Muppets Christmas Carol, It’s a Wonderful Life and even Die Hard, catching a Christmas movie at the Glasgow Film Theatre could be the beginning of a perfect Christmas tradition.

13. Electric Gardens II

Back by popular demand, experience the Botanic Gardens like never before. Until the sixth of December you can go on a sensory journey, filled with hypnotic sounds, lights and excitement. Don’t worry if you’ve been before, Electric Gardens II is a whole new adventure, like Alice when she ventured through the looking glass and returned to Wonderland.

14. Christmas Picture House Pop Up @ The Briggait


Fancy a bit of Christmas nostalgia in an actual piece of Glasgow’s history? The newly renovated Briggait, is hosting a Christmas pop up for all ages. Christmas classics, Winter Beer Garden and Food Stalls from some of the top street food markets in the city. Movies will be ticketed but, it’s free entry for everybody. Cold Beer, Mulled Cocktails and appearances from your favourite Christmas movie characters guaranteed.
